John Vidovich

Biographies / Memoirs, West Virginia Authors/Illustrators

John Vidovich is 73 years old. He raised three children, gifted to him by his precious wife, who has been deceased since 2012. His children, in turn, have given him 6 beautiful grandchildren! John’s erratic life, shaped by West Virginia politics, took him across many socioeconomic strata, giving him a broad range of perspectives and unique insight into the plight of those who dwell there. John’s early struggles in school, grades 1-12, not having attended kindergarten, were like a slow knife to him. This mindset assured him of a blue-collar factory job. However, through a series of implausible events and with the help of others, John earned a D-1 basketball scholarship to play for WVU and graduated magna cum laude in education! John now lives alone with his dog, Tia, a golden retriever and chow mix. John decided to write his book to shine a spotlight on midcentury politics in West Virginia and to reveal the hardships, cruelty, and injustice his parents faced while caught in the middle of a US Senate Democratic primary between Bill Marland and Jennings Randolph. John hopes that his life story will inspire and encourage those stuck in place and without hope. John’s is an inspirational tale about overcoming life’s walls and impediments through grit, fortitude, faith, friends, and what can be termed synchronicity, or divine intervention.
