Master Storyteller and Pulitzer Prize Nominee Presents The Appalachian Jack Tales for all ages

The workshop includes how the Jack Tales and West Virginia Mountain stories are relevant to children’s reading and how folklore plots and themes continue to resonate in modern children’s literature. Participants will receive an Appalachian Readers Theatre script for classroom use.

Lynn earned an MA and MFA in creative writing from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. She is the author of 18 books and 10 plays. In 2009 she was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for The Life and Times of Ray Hicks, Keeper of the Jack Tales. Other awards include the North Carolina Historian of the Year, the Jacqueline Lougheed World Understanding Lecturer (International Alpha Delta Kappa), an American Library Association Notable Book Award, eight Willie Parker Peace History Book Awards, a Stars and Flags gold medal, and a silver medal from the Military Writers Society of America. She is taking a break from her college teaching assignments to complete two books.

Lynn’s expertise includes the Jack Tales and mountain culture. Her ongoing research about Appalachian story origins has taken her to 18 countries. She writes popular fiction, children’s books, and literary non-fiction. In a former life, she was executive director (and playwright) of a youth touring theater.
