Wellness is an overall approach to maintaining good physical, mental, and emotional health. Writer Wellness provides anyone with a developmental guide to achieving and perpetuating good health and creativity.
"Writer Wellness changed my life. Yes, that's a bold statement, but it's true. Going through this program forced me to address parts of my life in need of change. The result. I'm happier, healthier, and much more productive. Years later, I still rely on the exercises and journaling methods presented in this book. Thank you, Joy."

A great book at a great time
Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2020
I love writing and I always had what felt like a million ideas running through my head. There were so many horrible things that happened in 2020, which made writing (for the first time) hard. So, I was excited to get Writer Wellness by Joy E. Held. I didn’t go into this book expecting to receive previously undiscovered, life-altering revelations. However, what the book did more than anything, was to remind me about the importance of balance. Writing and creativity isn’t just a result of a physical process but involves making sure I’m mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy. There are a lot of practical exercises which were a great reminder about taking care of the whole person. I needed this reminder and my writing life is benefiting from the focus on other areas that I’d neglected. Like anything, you will get out of this book, what you put into it. Give the exercises a try. You will be pleasantly surprised at the difference it makes.

Writer Wellness: A Writer’s Path to Health and Creativity by Joy E. Held is an uplifting book that helps readers become aware of the many changes in the human body and mind. The book gives good tools and techniques to guide readers in making healthy choices that are supportive of a creative way of life. The Wellness strategies will help readers find their creativity by embracing a healthy lifestyle. The book as a complete package is a life-changer, and the life-affirming exercises will definitely help produce good results. Healthy living is not something new, and the wellness lifestyle is the best way to live a longer, more productive time on Earth. The key concepts of Writer Wellness are healthful living concepts that date back many centuries, healthy people live longer and enjoy life more fully, and Writer Wellness includes regular journal writing, exercise, daily relaxation or meditation, proper nutrition, and creativity.
There are a lot of helpful exercises in the book, and the Writer Wellness lifestyle is the simplest and best use of time outside of writing because it helps channel the excess brain and body sludge that get in the way of creativity. Reading this book is also a good way to understand the benefits of journal writing. I like the way Joy E. Held tackles the subject and makes it interactive and fun for readers. Writer Wellness will encourage them to incorporate the tips into their daily lives and activities to make positive changes and wellness happen in their lives. The book will make readers look at writing in a different way altogether, and has wonderful ideas of journaling, creativity, exercise, and nutrition which can be used for reference.
